I want to backup my entire Yahoo email (for me thats email inbox & folders, contacts) to my local pc without deleting anything from Yahoo. I've tried setting up Thunderbird with POP connection to Yahoo. That all worked fine - copies of mail in my Yahoo inbox appeared in Thunderbird on my pc. However I found that the POP setup doesn't enable my Yahoo folders (& their contents) to be copied onto my pc. So I am looking to use the IMAP option. BUt I am nervous about this as I don't want any "synching"to delete anything off the Yahoo server. Ultimately I want to continue to use Yahoo as my primary email communication system & just occasionally use Thunderbird to get a copy of what is on Yahoo onto my pc. Still browsing the forum but if anybody has a precise setup guide to achieve the above I'd be grateful.

IMAP will never make a local backup. I suggest you ask Yahoo what they suggest. Google offer a simple option, if not all that practical on mail boxes over about 4Gb. But they have one.
