Saved Firefox login profile overrides LastPass login profile - how do I remove?
I've been trying to get the LastPass version of login name and password to work on a specific site, but it keeps autofilling the old login name.
I've done everything that I know including clearing the saved passwords list, etc. but it stubbornly keeps showing up. Where is this stored and how can I remove a single entry without having to completely wipe out my history/forms etc.?
Thanks, in advance. Joy

First, thank you so much for your prompt reply. I always appreciate that volunteers like you are there to offer help on issues that come up for users.
The suggestion above refers specifically to a feature that I mentioned in my question and which I had already attempted as a solution to the specific problem. So, unfortunately, that won't apply here.
I've also noted your additional comments re my version and Flash issues. I've had to maintain an older version of Firefox due to most of the critical add-ins that I use no longer working/available in the radically different 57.0 Firefox.
However, having said that, this is an issue that existed for a long time - before 57.0.
I took a look at the Lastpass link as well. There is no reference to this specific issue (that I can find).
So, to reiterate - somewhere in Firefox there is a cache of login profiles that I cannot see or access which has several of the same credentials I have in LastPass. These consistently get in the way of properly logging into LastPass. My concern is that they're in the browser history or somewhere else that would need to be cleared - which I'd rather not do. I simply want to get rid of the problematic memorized user credentials that override my LastPass credentials.
Thanks again for any help/ideas to correct this issue.
Firefox stores its own login data in the Password Manager.
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security: Logins: "Saved Logins" -> "Show Passwords"
I assume that LastPass uses its own storage and either uses Firefox indexedDB to store its data or stores it outside Firefox and communicates only with Firefox using its Firefox extension. You will have to check both cases (Firefox Password Manager and LasPass) to see if you can locate that old login entry.
You can use these steps to remove saved items from an autocomplete drop-down list.
- click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
- highlight an entry in the drop-down list with cursor Down key
do not click the mouse or press the Enter key - press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to delete the highlighted entry
Note that hovering with the mouse no longer works.
First, thank you for taking the time to respond.
As mentioned in my original question, I've already attempted to correct this issue using the options you mention in your response.
To reiterate, somewhere in Firefox there seems to be a cached version of login credentials outside of/in addition to the saved passwords list (which I've completely cleared because I use LastPass).
For several websites, these mysterious 'ghost credentials' pop up and override the existing LastPass credentials for that website. These credentials persist no matter how many times I check and clear related stores data.
Please note: I've reviewed the knowledgebase prior to asking my question so that I wouldn't be wasting people's time. So, unfortunately, none of the solutions you've proposed apply.
Is there anywhere else that old credentials may be memorized/stored in Firefox OTHER than the Saved Passwords list?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
Did you try to clear the LastPass cache?
- LastPass Icon -> More Options -> Advanced -> Clear local cache.
Here's a screen capture showing the totality of my More Options LastPass menu. No sign of a clear cache option.
I did try the LastPass > Advanced > More Options > History option and cleared all history for my account as per the instructions provided. However, when I tested one of the problem websites, it didn't have any effect. I'm still getting a 'ghost login' that doesn't seem to exist anywhere you would expect.
Please advise. Thanks.
Can you confirm that this only happens with LastPass enabled and not when you disable LP temporarily?
Hmmm...now I think we're on to something.
You're absolutely correct that when disabling LastPass the problem seems to disappear. Of course, then I don't have access to any login profiles, but it would seem that somehow, somewhere, LastPass is storing this 'ghost profile' data. Since I've cleared the History, I can't imagine where else it might be storing it.
Any ideas?
Thanks! Much appreciated...it narrows it down a little.
On a related note, I found the More Options > Clear Local Cache. See attached image.
I was previously looking for it while in the LastPass vault, but it actually only appears in the LastPass toolbar menu only when on a website login page.
So, I clicked the options, closed my browser, relaunched my browser to test if it resolved the problem while LastPass was enabled. It made no difference unfortunately. Only disabling LastPass seems to eliminate the 'ghost profile' along with all LastPass functionality.
Hi, glad you found where it was.
