I don't need any messages automatically deleted and need to move them to folders I create for future reference, so how do I do this in Thunderbird? As soon as I started using Thunderbird, by the next morning, almost all of my messages were automatically deleted. This is not acceptable. When I used old programs like Outlook Express, e-mails would stay put in their appropriate folders until I deleted them. I want to be able to do the same thing in Thunderbird.

My Thunderbird behaves just as you want it to. I have many messages that are several years old. As far as I am aware, what you're asking for is the default behaviour.

Who is your email provider? Are the affected accounts set up with POP, or with IMAP? Have you checked in account settings under Synchronization & Storage (IMAP) or Disk Space (POP) for the the settings for automatic deletion?
