Can't install Thunderbird on Mac with existing email account
Hey, Have Thunderbird installed on Mac. In the next window I have to enter my name, email address and password for an existing email account. Then I see a window with all the data such as imap, port numbers, data from my provider. So that is recognized. When I click on <ready> I receive the warning that my username or password is incorrect. That's weird? Have tried again 6 times but do not continue. The warning always comes back even though my email address and password are correct. With the same data, I can get in at my email from my provider. Who knows what is going on and what I can do. My provider is Ziggo in the Netherlands.

When creating the mail account, Thunderbird will attempt to get configuration settings. Click on the 'Manual config' button check the settings are as shown at the link. Make sure the 'username' is full email address.
Hello Jan, Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, it did not help me. I know the link you gave me and I used it during the completion. It is strange that when filling in the first window (data of an existing account) of my name, e-mail address and password the next window shows which configuration is obtained from the provider. This configuration is entirely correct compared to the above link. The e-mail address and password have already been filled in and the full e-mail address is filled in at the username. If I click on ready, it goes wrong and I get the message: Configuration can not be verified - is the username or password incorrect? That is strange because they get the data from my provider through my e-mail address and my password but then one of them would no longer be correct. Still thanks Jan.
DO you use an anti virus on your apple product. They frequently cause just the error you are describing.
When creating account make sure the SMTP is using port 587 and 'STARTTLS'.
Are you using a VPN? If yes, disconnect from VPN and retry creating mail account.
What Anti-Virus product are you using ? Avast ? Is Avast up to date ? Have you checked to see if cerificate needs updating? https://support.avast.com/en-gb/article/Troubleshoot-invalid-email-certificate Try this: Disable Mail Shield
Hey,
It was not the antivirus program and not the wrong number at the gate because all the data was collected at Ziggo. But .. tried again this morning and .... we succeeded. I remembered that Thunderbird was also open on my PC yesterday. I turned this off this morning and then did the installation on the Mac. Whether that is the reason I succeeded, I do not know but I am glad that it succeeded. Thank you for your help Toad-Hall and Matt.
