Page jumps to the bottom when I try to post on a Disqus discussion site

I have been using Chrome for my browser for some time and changed to Firefox today. It was already on my computer so I updated it and did some tweeking to set it up. Now when I go to a Disqus site which is a discussion site and post a comment, the page jumps all the way down to the bottom of all the comments forcing me to constantly have to scroll back up. I have tried unclicking "Hareware accelerator" in the settings but the problem still happens. Other people using firefox, on the site say it happens to them too. Can you look into this for a fix or I will have to change browsers again.

Hi Tigerfan2, I don't think I've ever posted a comment using Disqus, although I have read some.

Is there a particular discussion you can reference that summarizes what people have tried so far? Otherwise, of course, I'm going to ask you to do it...

Could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Thanks for trying to help me. I tried the Starting in safe mode this morning and the problem still exists. I followed your steps and know it was in safe mode because my bookmark bar disappeared. I am still in safe mode right now. The Disqus site I go to daily, Warriors 4 Trump, has a choice of how you want the comments arranged, either "Best, Oldest, or Newest". I always pick Newest to have the newest comments at the top. I have asked on the site and several other users who use Firefox, have the same problem and say it has been going on for months.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I can't keep using Firefox if this keeps happening.

I see two selectors, "Recommended" and "Latest", but this could be because I'm not logged in.

Do you think Firefox might be trying to restore your last position on the page? There was a change in Firefox 66 that users notice when using the Back button to return to a long page that includes dynamically inserted content. What Firefox does as that content starts to load in changed in Firefox 66:

Firefox 65 and earlier: Firefox scrolls the page as content loads above the current position, so the content you started viewing would move down. This may or may not land you in the right spot eventually.

Firefox 66 and later: Firefox freezes that position as that content reloads above it. This makes it easier to use links with anchors (hash tags) on them, but this may overshoot -- possibly staying at the bottom of the page -- on some sites.

Which you prefer depends on your browsing style and pages you visit. At least for now, you can easily switch back to the old behavior and decide which works better for you.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste anch and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the layout.css.scroll-anchoring.enabled preference to switch the value from true to false

Any difference?
