How to download a file instead of opening it?

If a website has a link to a MP3 file, it opens an audio player in Firefox. I would like to download the file to my internal storage or SD card. I would also like to choose the location where it gets saved. Similar to the "Save link as" behavior in Firefox Desktop.

Hi

Thank you for that. I had a chat to one of our amazing developers and they gave me the solution to this issue:

  1. Select the link for the .mp3 that you wish to download so that it opens in a new tab.
  2. Long press on the bar in the centre of the screen with the play/pause control, time elapsed and volume control.
  3. Select Save Audio...and the file will download. (Tested it myself and it works.)

I hope this helps,

Hi

Instead of tapping on the link (that then plays the file), long press on the link and an option to download the file should appear.

I hope this helps.

Hey, I tried but I only get these options:

- Open Link in New Tab - Open Link in Private Tab - Copy Link - Bookmark Link

Would it be possible to share a link where this is happening for you so that I can look into it further here?

Yes, it works, great, thank you!

I would still like it if the save option would be added to the long-press-on-link menu, because if you want to download a lot of files it's a hassle to go back and forth all the time. Also, if you're playing some audio in the background while doing this, it stops when the audio file in Firefox opens and starts playing. Also it's anyway a bit annoying that these files start playing each time while you just want to download them.

But it's nice that I can at least download some audio files now. I was breaking my head over this.
