When I open a NEW WINDOW, how can I have the cursor default to the URL/ADDRESS bar, thereby allowing me to type immediately without having to click the bar?

When I open a NEW WINDOW, how can I have the cursor default to the URL/ADDRESS bar, thereby allowing me to type immediately without having to click the bar? I ONLY use blank home page and blank tabs. By the way, when I open a new tab the cursor is already in the URL/ADDRESS bar. I simply want the same thing for opening new windows.

Thank you for you time.

Seems to have fixed itself. Please delete this question.

OK, sorry. It isn't fixed. When I open a fresh window there is NO cursor in the URL/ADDRESS bar. If an existing window is open already and THEN a new window is opened, there will be a cursor present. This must be an overlooked bug. I just find it annoying to have to click the bar instead of being able to type immediately. An overlying goal of any program creator should be to make it possible to do work with as few clicks and mouse movements as possible. Just my 2 cents. If anyone has an answer, I'd be grateful, as I simple don't want to use any other browser, especially Chrome.

Ctrl+L or Alt+D will put the cursor in the url/Address bar. No need to click up. or There can be some add-ons for this.

Well, that is a fix, sorta. However, seeing as other browsers lack this issue, I don't see why this doesn't get fixed. For example, Chrome, while I don't wish to use this browser, does not have this issue. When you open a fresh window, the cursor is where it is supposed to be, in my opinion.

Using an add-on for something like this is a very poor solution. However, I have looked and found none. If someone knows of such an add-on I will try it, gratefully.

I will use your solution as there seems to be nothing else that can be done.

Thank you for you time.

Hi popyacap, normally Firefox shows the "home page" in a new window and puts the cursor in the page, as it would when you open a page using a link.

It differs from the "new tab" scenario (Ctrl+t) where the focus always goes to the address bar.

Another key that can move the focus between the document and the address bar is the F6 function key, in case that's any easier.

Thanks to both of you (Senali and jscher 2000) for your replies.

I have new windows and new tabs completely blank except for the address bar, not even a search bar. I suppose I could go back to using a home screen.

I'm a minimalist at heart and am always seeking ways to reduce movements; not just on a computer.

Either way this issue isn't a deal breaker for me. I've been using Firefox for many years now and will continue because I believe it is the best browser.

Thank you both.
