How can I turn off dropdown suggestions when using Google search?
I am old and non-technical. I have manged over the years to turn off google search suggestions successfully in the past but, whatever I do my new computer running Windows 10 refuses to oblige. I have turned off suggestions in privacy and made the simple alteration in about:config to no avail. My homepage is google search engine and the I type my sserach in the google engine not in in any URL bar - if that makes sense. I have searched for possible resloutions in the user forum but they either tell me to turn off what I have already turned off or refer me to a Linux mint solution which even if I understood I feel is inappropriate. Unless i have a solution I think I will be forced to use chrome, safari or whatever. The add=ons that i use and my settings all seem to work in my previous computer Help please.

There is no setting in a browser which can control the dropdown search suggestions on the web page. It is possible an add-on does this, but i don't know. I don't know what add-ons you used before. The setting that may have been useful in the Google search page settings is no longer there, as far as i can see.
Firefox lets you manage search engine suggestions in its own bars, such as the address bar, optional short search bar, the bar in the built-in new tab page, etc. But as mentioned in the first reply, Firefox does not have a setting to manage suggestions offered by search boxes in web pages, those are determined by the code of the page.

I'm pretty sure Google offers suggestions in all browsers. However, you can test for yourself if you like. For Windows 10, try the included Edge browser for comparison. You also can download Google Chrome or Opera if you want to test those.
Please do not run Safari on Windows, it hasn't been updated for many years.
