Good day, My father in law has a PC with Ubuntu installed using Thunderbird for his emails. His mail server is Orange in France. Usually everything is fine. But when he receives emails over 9Mo, orange keeps sending the same email again and again, thus blocking the delivery of other emails. I found a turnaround by accessing his account at orange and deleting this kind of heavy email, thus unblocking the delivery of his other messages. What I cannot understand is that I have also orange as mail server, I also use Thunderbird but under Windows 10, and I have no problem receiving heavy emails (in fact the same as him). We both use Pop3. Is there a special setting in thunderbird for Ubuntu ?

There is not. When this happens the next time you may try to delete the popstate.dat file in the profile. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Popstate.dat#Deleting_popstate.dat

Alternatively tell the sender not to send large attachments via email, and use some sort of cloud servervice instead. The receiver would then just need to click a link in the received message to download the file. For Thunderbird this is called Filelink. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/filelink-large-attachments

Good day, My father in law is 91 years old and I think it is getting a bit too technical for him. I am quite willing to try the deletion of the popstate.dat file on his computer as soon as I can leave home for we all are blocked by the Covid-19 in France. What really puzzles me is that I can download his emails on my own computer using TB under Win10 and our TB and server settings are identical. Anyway, thank you for your reply christ1.

The assumption is that the problem is a corrupted popstate.dat file, and not related to your server settings.
