Why is Firefox being TRASHED.
Why is Firefox 77.0.1 becoming harder to use with every update, less and less user friendly, so much so that one has to question the point of Firefox anymore as your leaving your users behind, WHY??? Make it easier to tweak things as I like like them not what some darkroom coder aspires too. Maybe time to dump Firefox and use Chrome or Explorer, same sh1t as being pumped out here.
Please enlighten me thank you.

Usually the desktop and about:profiles would have your old profile folder. You also could check on disk whether there are any unlisted profile folders. When you open the current folder, if you click "up" one level to the Profiles folder in the address bar, are there any additional folders not listed on the about:profiles page?
If not, I can't think of any other place to check for your old userChrome.css file. I think you'll need to re-create it.

Hi Puddle5OfMud!!!, could you be more specific about what changes you don't like? For example, there is a lot of unhappiness and confusion about the address bar changes -- some aesthetic, some functional -- so if you haven't found a useful thread answering your questions about those, or whatever is on your mind, please mention the pain points.
Hi jscher2000,
I had all set up as I wanted no dramas since the changes back around 55.0.1 until now. I updated a few days ago to 77.0.1 and lost all my settings, i.e. tabs on bottom, address bar everything gone total reset. After this I tried to sort things in the Chrome.css file but I'm unable to get things back and now I'm not sure if I've damaged the chrome file or not? Thanks for your time jscher2000 I appreciate it cheers.
Do you recall the last version that was working normally? There have been frequent changes related to tabs on the bottom recently, about every other version seemed to require a tweak. Also, if you copied your files to a new profile, you need to re-enable Firefox to check for userChrome.css at startup:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.
(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste userprof and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets preference to switch the value from false to true
What do your address bar rules do? Firefox 77 requires new code to tame the enlargement. Old code for the drop-down either will not work or will cause chaos, so it's better to tackle that fresh.
Hi jscher2000,
Again thank for your time and replies I appreciate your help.
toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets - Were set to True.
The previous version I was using and all was fine was 76.
Is your userChrome.css file still intact? The "tabs on bottom" (i.e., tabs below the main toolbar) code should be the same for Firefox 76 and 77.
Hi jscher2000,
Sorry for the slow response but I've been away. I think I have a problem with my userChrome.css as the tabs are no longer on the bottom something changed with the 76 to 77 update.
Could you cross-check against the steps in the following listing in case something is missing after the update?
Hi jscher2000,
The complete chrome folder was missing??? I have created a new chrome folder and userChrome.css inside but added nothing as yet.
The chrome folder might be missing if you are using a new profile, for example, after Firefox performed a Refresh. The tell-tale sign of a Refresh is a new folder on your computer desktop named Old Firefox Data, which would contain your entire old profile folder, including the old chrome folder and its contents. Do you see anything like that?
Another place to check for an old profile is the Profile Manager Page. Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.
This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)
The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:
This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.
Do you have another profile named default or default-release or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.
If it isn't the right one, simply close that new window.
If it IS what you used before, you can access its profile folder (and chrome folder) from the about:profiles page by using the Open Folder button on the Root Directory line for that profile.
Hi jscher2000,
I've just checked about:profiles, the profile being used is the only usable one, the others Root Directory has two files inside: parent.lock times.json and the Local Directory is empty.

Hi jscher2000,
My laptop has crashed again and I'm OVER it, no more rebuilds or refreshing off to donate some change for a new iMac which I hope will resolve all my problems, but no doubt it will fill my world with new ones. Thank you again jscher2000 I really appreciate your help, I'll be back with apple issues lol.
