Hi drscottmanel
If your computer can't load macOS then it's not a Firefox problem, it's a problem with your Mac. I suggest that you ask in a Apple support forum about your macOS issues
Cheers!

Note that Firefox 78 is the last release for Mac OS X 10.9 and 10.10 and 10.11 and Firefox 78 users will be moved to Firefox ESR update channel (you get 78.0.1 ESR), you will need at least Mac OS X 10.12 to be able to use the next Firefox 79 release.
Important - macOS 10.9, 10.10 and 10.11 users move to Extended Support Release
(edited for better wording that this is about ending support for Firefox 79 and later)

Thank you very much cor-el & Roland for responding to my request for help. I was running High Sierra )S 10.13.6 when I followed up on the request to update my Firefox app.. It updated me to 78.0.2.
On restarting my computer I noticed that the white bar showing progress to loading
stopped near the end and never made it to the end. A minute later I got a dialog box message that the computer was unable to load the operating system. Before updating Firefox the computer wasn't having problems. As i mentioned, I was able to boot up in safe mode. I tried a number of the usual recommendations when having problems with Macs. Resetting PRAM and SMC reboot. Didn't seem to help. After reloading the OS my computer seems to be working normally, and Firefox 78.0.2 is running OK. I will post an incident report on the mac community support site. At this point, I'm not sure I'll risk updating Firefox anytime in the near future, although it's never been a problem in the past. This has been a nerve wracking experience. It could be that my problem was a corrupted OS, but the timing of that happening immediately after updating Firefox is suspicious. Again thank you for your time and suggestions. Gratefully, Scott ( All's well that ends well )
Hi drscottmandel:
Again, upgrading Firefox won't affect macOS rebooting (or Windows or Linux or any operating system rebooting).
You could have malware, hardware issues, lots of things are possible but 99.9999% it's not Firefox that caused it. I've used many Macs over the years and problems like this were caused by hardware or low level software not Firefox or Safari or any other higher level app!
But that's irrelevant :-) Glad you got it working!
