Firefox Sept. 22nd Update and Blackboard Compatability

more options

Hi guys!

I'm a college student and my university uses Blackboard as a way to access our courses. Unfortunately, my Firefox has been breaking and not loading all of my courses. My university tech support is no help and they told me to contact Blackboard and Blackboard told me to use Google Chrome. I already installed Chrome so I can use it temporarily to do my coursework but I really don't want to use it permanently, I have my computer set up exactly how I like it and I prefer to use Firefox.

I think the problem started around when the September 22nd update for Firefox was automatically installed. Some things I've tried to fix the issue are: 1. Fresh install of Windows using the Razer Blade's recovery to factory default; 2. Update Windows to latest version (except the 2004 feature update, it causes my laptop to black screen on bootup); and 3. Fresh install of Firefox and changing my privacy settings to standard rather than the strict settings I usually use.

I didn't want to install an older version of Firefox because of all the warnings on the webpage, but I'm really not sure what else I can do. Has anyone else had this happen? Any fixes?

I have run into the same issue with firefox version 81.0. I have also figured out that if I shrink my browser window vertically until it is very small and then scroll down to the bottom all of my classes will load in.

Hi Aaron, I notice the shield icon to the left of the lock icon is a bit purplish, which usually indicates that -- even though you are using Standard tracking protection -- something is being blocked. Could you click that icon and see whether making an exception for the site has any effect?

Hi jscher!

Thank you for the reply! You are absolutely correct! After realizing that the tracking protection settings didn't solve my problem, I ended up turning it back on for protection on other websites. However, I did try to turn that off specifically because I hadn't tried that yet and unfortunately there was no effect. I'm still having the same problem where half my courses aren't loading. Another thing I've noticed that I don't think I've seen before this was that a little white box appears in the bottom left-hand corner of my screen which says "Javascript:void (0);" and lingers there for a bit while the page is loading. I don't know much about the javascript settings on Firefox so I don't know if that has anything to do with this.

I still marked your answer as helpful because it might just help someone else! Thank you!

Thank you! It didn’t get all my classes to show up but it works!

I had the same exact issue with 81.0. Shrinking my window vertically did help; I had to mess around with the height a bit because if I shrink it too much, the classes don't show up, but if I increase the height a bit, they do. I'll include the message from my school's tech support in case it might help anyone else: "This is a known issue with Firefox. You can work around the issue by scrolling further down the page, and Firefox will start loading in content after it reaches a certain height. If you are seeing your classes in tile view, this fix doesn't seem to work, but the fix carries over if you go into list view and then scroll to let things load and then go back into tile view."

A Firefox 81.0.1 update was released earlier today. According to the release notes: "Fixed missing content on Blackboard course listings." See: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/81.0.1/releasenotes/

Can anyone confirm that it's working for them?
