Hi, unfortunately I've just updated my Thunderbird email client and with great disappointment I've noticed that I cannot download any email anymore since the STICKY PASSWORD extension I always use to store all my passwords for security and practical reasons, is not accepted by Thunderbird itself!!! WHY??? I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the extension but nothing changed. Please let me know what I have to do to download again my emails with Thunderbird using Sticky Password, otherwise I'll be forced to change my email client and it would be sad... Awaiting from you, kind regards

I cannot find any mention of an authorised Thunderbird add-on called 'Sticky Password'.

I did find a company that created 'Sticky Password' : https://www.stickypassword.com/help/using-sticky-password-with-mozilla-thunderbird-on-windows-1024

Obviously, if the people who created 'Sticky Password' say they have designed it to work with the latest Thunderbird version 78.4.0 then it should work. Perhaps you should be talking to the people who own 'Sticky Password' software.

I've tried to make contact with someone who I think is 'sticky password', so hopefully they will comment.

I'll keep an eye out for other information that may be helpful.

Hi, Sticky password is a very useful software which was working great with everything including Thunderbird until the last Thunderbird update. I have the latest version of Sticky password and I'm very disappointed that Thunderbird with its latest update made teh Sticky Password extension not working anymore. Why you made "only authorized add-ons" working? It's not fair and not appropriate for a FREE and OPEN project like the Mozilla's one, I think. People should be able to choose if they wanna use also unauthorized addons besides the authorized ones. I think that would be more democratic, don't you think? I hope this mess gonna be solved soon, because I think there are a lot of people using passwords managers... Regards,

Hello everyone, I represent the Sticky Password team. Unfortunately Thunderbird doesn't provide standard API (programming interface) for password managers. In previous versions we were able to use its specific behavior, which was not originally designed for this purpose and was discontinued in the latest version.

Now we are working on different approach that will allow us to fill passwords into Thunderbird.

topajuniors re :People should be able to choose if they wanna use also unauthorized addons besides the authorized ones. You do have the choice, but you have to use software that is able to work with latest update. It has nothing to do with democracy. All software will update for various reasons and often this will be for security reasons. If you use an Anti-Virus product I'm sure you would expect it to update in order to work with latest software updates and update to cover newly discovered bugs, virus, etc.

Kindly, Aleksandr (Sticky Password) has reponded to my request and it would seem they are aware of the issue and are working on it. Many thanks Aleksandr.

Ok, maybe democracy wasn't the right term for my claim, but anyway making AN OPEN and FREE email client only working with "authorized add ons" is something limiting, I hope you agree... This is causing me many problems and this is not what I ask from an email client which abruptly (with no notice at all before) changed its behaviour. Maybe it's better to choose the option "NO AUTOMATIC UPDATES" and stay with the last fully working version, before deciding to install the new update, damn. :-( Regards,

As updates usually involve improving a security issue or bug, it would seem inadvisable to prefer to use out of date software. As you are already security concious it is worth baring in mind.
