I need to remove existing tabs without opening the browser. I think there is an existing tab from a malicious website. Firefox opens to a blank page and then forces restart of the system. Currently using latest version from Play Store but this has been going on for several months. Android 10. Do you know where the file is that stores the tabs in Android? Thanks Gene

Hi genekimmel9

I have an idea that might help with this.

  • Open the Android Settings app (typically a cogwheel)
  • Open Applications, then find Firefox
  • Clear the cache (do not clear data)

Does this help?

Thanks for the input; I've tried doing this several times since the problem first arose; it's not the answer. For Windows the location of the user profiles is published on the Mozilla support pages; for Firefox I have not been able to find this information. What I think I need to do is delete the contents of the file that contains the existing tab information. I'm running ver. 82.1.3. Gene

I meant to say. "For Android I have not been able to find this information". Gene

To access that file, you will need to root your device, something that I cannot recommend as it cannot be reversed and could cause other more significant problems with your device in the longer term.

Assuming you have used Firefox Sync to transfer your bookmarks and passwords to another copy of Firefox, I would recommend completely resetting your copy of Firefox for Android, either by choosing the "clear data" option, or to uninstall/resinstall it.

The device has been rooted since before the problem with Firefox arose. I have cleared Firefox data and cache, and reinstalled the browser several times. I have a root file manager and a terminal emulator installed. My best guess is that the file containing the tab information needs to be cleared but I haven't been able to find the file. Gene
