Server configuration
I have a locked account on thunderbird (1 out of 3). My settings are set to SSL security with a password confirmation. As I change it to security free (no password confirmation) the lock disappears. Because of the lock, I can’t receive any emails.
So my questions are: 1) What is the server security for? Do I need it to keep my account safe ? 2) How to get the lock away from my account in a different way?
Please help, I need the answers ASAP.

The 'lock' is just a visual display that the account is using a secure connection. AS you confirm "My settings are set to SSL security with a password confirmation. " It does not mean the account is 'locked'.
If you are not using a secure means of sending your password then obviously it is not very secure. re :How to get the lock away from my account in a different way? You really do not want to use an insecure method if not necessary.
But I do not know whether you stopped downloading emails because you have totally used up your server quota, so the server cannot accept any new emails until you create some space. So Thunderbird cannot download emails that do not exist.
First check to see if you have a load of new email on the server. You do this by logging on to your webmail account via a browser. If there is new mail then it is the connection issue.
I do not know what server you are using. It would be useful to know. Some servers have recently changed their policy on Authentication eg: Yahoo. I could advise if I knew what server is having a problem.
If you recently updated from a 68* version to a 78* version, then there has been a change in the minimum TLS setting which may effect you. Some servers still use older TLSv1.0 and TLSv1.1 protocols. Gmail and Yahoo accounts would not be effected by this because they use up to date protocols. Thunderbird 78* has by default, set the minimum to use TLSv1.2.
This means you may not be able to connect to those servers using old protocols. However, you can reset the minimum to allow the older protocols and get things working again using the correct SSL/TLS and password settings which you should be using. Please read the information at the following link to reset the minimum to a lower level and then restart Thunderbird.
If this works then you know what caused your problem.
Do you get any error messages? If yes, what is the entire error message word for word ? You could post an image of that error message.
I do not know what Anti-Virus you use. But if you use ESET then read the following: If you are using ESET/NOD32 security/AV then probability is very high it is causing your problems.
