I'm also on Linux but am a beginner. I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

The problem seems to be with Youtube 4k@60, not 4k@30. Though a quick test on WebGL site shows a significant performance decrease if running with Firefox Vs. Edge Vs. Chrome.

Specs for my machine are AMD Ryzen 5 3400GE/2x8GB DDR4L-2666MHz (dual-channel)/AMD Picasso iGPU (Vega 11).

I tried the video, with the link you have provided, and i don't find any issue with it. It's probably something that has to do with your PC or something, i have an iMac with 15 intel core, works perfectly fine.

I just click on that button to copy the info. Let me try the same video on my newer laptop for S&Gs.  ;-))

I played it on my newer laptop and Firefox performed much better, but still a bit of lag. Chrome and Edge had no issue. Looks like a combo of hardware and browser performance.

My laptop was using the Intel Graphics(1gig of ram) and it was lagging, but changed the bios to only use the Nvidia(4gigs of ram) card and now Firefox had no issues. What graphics card are you running.

I'm using AMD's integrated graphics solution as posted in my previous message (Picasso - Vega 11 Graphics).

Good to know I am not the only one having this issue with Firefox.

Of course a dedicated graphics card won't have any issues, but my iGPU can handle it no problem if playing the video with Chrome or Edge browser.

That means the issue is related to some Firefox settings. I've also read somewhere Firefox users don't get hardware acceleration on Linux.

Not exactly. Version 85 should be hardware accelerated, see Firefox – we’re finally getting HW acceleration on Linux.

Thank you for the article, but I don't think I'm getting hardware acceleration with Mozilla Firefox yet.

My current browser version is Mozilla Firefox 85.0.1 and OS is Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

I have tried enabling Webrender and changing to Ubuntu on Wayland, nothing really worked.

It is really unfortunate because I do prefer Mozilla over Google and Microsoft!
