My imap email host has changed their servers, and I need therefore to change my thunderbird account to point to this new location.

I was told to backup my emails, delete my account in thunderbird and then to recreate it using the new server details. Connect to the new server, and then import my backupped emails into this new thunderbird account.

I can't manage to do this? Any step by step guidance greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi info5864, In my opinion, that is overboard. If there's one moment where the old server stops working and the new one begins, you can just change the server name in account settings. Go to Tools > Account Settings > accountname > Server Settings. Update the Server Name field and restart Thunderbird.

If there's any sort of overlap, it would be better to have two separate accounts. Go to File > New > Existing Mail Account, and fill in the details. You will end up with two accounts separate accounts in the folder pane. Both will work and you will be able to move messages between accounts.

If the new account doesn't contain your old messages, I would suggesting moving messages off of your old account as soon as possible before the old server is taken offline.
