Yes, I'm yet another now-email-less verizon.net customer whose (5) accounts are now unable to be used on Thunderbird after AOL's strict enforcement of their revised secure connection settings requirements. After unsuccessfully trying many of the proposed fixes listed in similar questions here (and on AOL), I decided to start fresh with a new install of Thunderbird. Did not work. it appears that Mozilla has still not yet decided to support these psuedo-AOL verizon.net accounts as part of their native account setup processes.

An example of what I mean by support is this - on my Samsung smartphones, the first "new account" step in their native email app asks you to choose the service (AOL, Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, Corp, Other, etc.). If I chose AOL and then enter my standard verizon.net email addresses and passwords, their app successfully creates these accounts in mere seconds - without my having to visit AOL webmail to fetch anything! Unfortunately, my smartphones (and thumbs) aren't capable of handling the volume - I really need Thunderbird to work.

So, what I am asking here is if anyone (including moz://a) has developed an explicit script to follow to successfully (and easily?) set up MULTIPLE verizon.net accounts on a fresh install of Thunderbird.

Thank you.

I dove in again to tackle my problem this morning using a KISS method - this is what worked for me:

1. Using your browser, go to https://login.aol.com/account/security 2. Sign into your verizon.net account(s) and complete any tasks AOL wants you to do before it will let you access your account (backup email, telephone number, ...). 3. When you're done, if it sends you to your email page, go to go to https://login.aol.com/account/security again in another window. 3. Once in "Account Security" you will see "Manage app passwords" at the bottom of the page. 4. Hit "Select your app", select "Other app" in the pull down, type in "Thunderbird", and hit "Generate". 5. Copy the password - if you have multiple accounts, go through the above process for each of your accounts (exiting and re-entering AOL each time), and save each password along with its associated email address (I used Notepad for this.)

Once this is done, open Thunderbird. As it complains about each individual verizon.net account, let it advance to the new password entry field. Make sure "Save Password" is checked, and enter the AOL-generated password your obtained above (for each account).

To make sure it all works, close and reopen Thunderbird. If all accounts update email without complaint, you're done. If not, try each hold out again with the appropriate AOL password.

This worked for me - I went back to my original install of Thunderbird, did the above, and (so far) am on my way!

You have to use app passwords in TB:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1344702

imap.aol.com on 993 or pop.verizon.net on 995, smtp.verizon.net on 465; SSL/TLS, authentication = normal password, User Name = email address

Create separate smtp servers for each account, and set the sending account to use the smtp with the same User Name.
