Copy from Word to Web-forum via Firefox: Loss of formating
Hi All, thanks for any help;
My issue is, I transfer a lot of long Word-97 generated text to various web-forums, which contain simple formatting (bold, italics, paragraph spacing, varied 'forum supported' fonts). When the text is copied, all the formatting is stripped in Firefox and only pasted as plain text.
Is there a way to copy and paste a document's text so the formatting is not removed?
p.s.: this is a browser issue, older browsers--like IE-11--copy the information fine (they have some paragraph vs. line issues (now, which is likely forum side), but otherwise work fine.)

I don't know whether Word can use inline CSS code instead of using a style sheet, but I've seen cases where Word wants to add a lot of (garbage) code when you paste formatted code which might break the form as it can exeed the maximum content issues. You can possibly check the source in the editor (i.e. switch from rendered to editing the source) if you paste that content in another browser to verify what is actually pasted.
You're speaking above my education (which doesn't take much :) ). I understand some of it (from when I built a simplistic website+forum years ago), but past that...
Anywho, all I can say in response is that perhaps 6/7 years ago I could straight copy and paste word text to any forum without issue. Newer forum styles came out, and there were issues--but those were forum side, the information pasted through and confused them. IE-11 will c/p all formatting (now with issues forum side), but FF does not (nor edge or chrome, which I assume is the issue--chrome based).
Your initial suggestion above helped, however. If I change doc paragraph spaces to blank lines, save my doc in HTML format, bring that up, select-all/c/p that, though it loses bold, it retains the line spacing (not indent) and italics...other formatting I can't say.
Hope that adds some clues, but I suspect it's simply a matter of me not keeping up with the times, Word style (sheets) and the like. In the end, it all just evolved past the simplicity of what was, no doubt for security and better educated web users.

Pasting formatted HTML content only works in Firefox if inline CSS code is used (<b>bold</b>, <i>italics</i>) and not with an embedded style sheet as Word probably uses.
