Hello Community.

I've selected an option to open PDF's in Firefox for preview. And if I wanted to download the PDF after preview, I simply clicked the downloab button from the preview app/tab. The files were downloaded with default filename and to the downloads folder without prompts. But since a while ago the dialog where the save location must be selected and filename given for the file opens up after the click of the download button.

How can I change it back to the previous behaviour without having to input filename and select the file download directory?

Hello Terry

Thanks for your reply. The fix provided in the other thread worked for my problem also.

Hello Community

This problem has arisen again. The previous workaround provided in the link above has stopped working and when a PDF file opens in Firefox for viewing and I wanted to download that file then after clicking the download button the window pops up asking where to save the file. I would want it to behave like before where the file was saved with its filename to the default location.

Anyone to help please?

If that isn't working now, it's probably a good idea to return the preference to its default value of false. If you don't want to be asked where to save the file, you need to deselect Settings > Downloads > Always ask you where to save files.

Mozilla keeps changing how downloads are handled. You could try right-clicking such a download in the Downloads panel and selecting the option to treat such downloads the same.

I don't use Firefox to view pdf files so I can't verify this. Evidently, the download button on a pdf file operates as a "save as" button which may mean that you have to choose the destination as well as the name.
