can't bookmark, no dialogue box appears, or does with save grayed out, can't edit or remove them
When I click on Bookmark Current Tab in the Bookmarks menu no dialogue box appears and it does not save it. Command D etc. to the right of the menu items are grayed out.
When I right click on the tab and click on Bookmark Tab I do get a dialogue box, but Save is grayed out (i.e. not clickable). I can only click on Cancel.
Clicking on the star in the address bar also does nothing.
Command D does nothing.
I've also discovered I can't edit or remove bookmarks either. Those processes look like they are working, but the changes are not saved.
I have shut down and restarted my MacBook many times since this started happening, as suggested by jscher2000 on the Mozilla Connect Community board, so that doesn't work.
This is Firefox version 104.0.1 (64 bit), on a 2021 MacBook Pro running Mac OS 12.5.1 "Monterey". Both Firefox and the OS are up to date (checked them again just now).
I bought my MacBook new at an Apple store on 08-26-22, and transferred my files and settings from my 2018 MacBook to it from my backup drive, updating to the newest version of Firefox, which I gathered was released just a few days earlier on 08-23-22.

Okay, there are two files: places.sqlite (URLs, dates/time of visits) and favicons.sqlite (site icons). You may be able to resolve the issue by removing the favicons.sqlite file, but of course the icons will need to be repopulated over time.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
- "3-bar" menu button > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, find the Profile Folder row, and click the "Show in Finder" (or "Open Folder") button.
If Finder highlights an icon with a semi-random name like a1b2c3d4.default, double-click it to display the contents of that profile folder.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Quit, either:
- "3-bar" menu button > Quit
- (menu bar) Firefox > Quit (or is it File > Quit ?)
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then:
Rename favicons.sqlite to something like faviconsOLD.sqlite, or move the file out of the folder to somewhere else. Or if you suspect you wouldn't want this file again later, you can delete it.
Check for stray journaling files with names like favicons.sqlite-shm and favicons.sqlite-wal and remove those.
Start Firefox back up again. Your bookmarks won't have any icons, but hopefully you can add a new one?

Thanks for trying the restart. Next, could you let us know what you get when you run the "Verify Integrity" diagnosis and repair function. That's here:
Open Firefox's Troubleshooting Information page using any of these methods:
- "3-bar" menu button > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
Near the bottom, there is a section titled Places Database -- that's the file which stores history and bookmarks. Click the button labeled Verify Integrity. There may be a 10-15 second delay before results appear.
If all is well, the report that appears below the button should start with:
> Task: checkIntegrity + The places.sqlite database is sane + The favicons.sqlite database is sane > Task: invalidateCaches + The caches have been invalidated > Task: checkCoherence + The database is coherent
Does yours say that, or something else? You can select and copy the report, and then paste it into a reply for review and comment.
This what I get: > Task: checkIntegrity - Unable to check favicons.sqlite integrity: Error: Error(s) encountered during statement execution: > Task: invalidateCaches - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: checkCoherence - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: expire - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: originFrecencyStats - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: vacuum - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: stats - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: _refreshUI

That worked. Thanks!
I'm finding that icons appear again for some sites when a bookmarked page is loaded. The icons are nice to have, but not really necessary.
