Hello,

For about a week now, Facebook Messenger on desktop (on my profile page at facebook.com) will fail to load. If I click on "See all in Messenger" it will just load indefinitely and not redirect to the new page with all the messages.

I have not installed any new add-ons and Troubleshoot Mode has the exact same issue. A week ago everything was fine. It this a known issue with the latest update?

Is there something I can do?

Please don't tell me to reset firefox. Burning your house down for a minor inconvenience is not a solution. It's as unprofessional of an advice as all those "reinstall windows" tips for absolutely every singe issue. That's not advice, just lack of knowledge.

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> [X] Cached Web Content -> Clear

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Thank you very much! I did not have time yet to verify exactly the cause of the issue, following your instructions, but this did the trick:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files. *hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

I also deleted the cookies for facebook and entered the site as an exception for cookies, but it still would do nothing.

Will have to dig deeper, but for now, Shift + Reload button is a temporary and useful fix.
