I actually posted this same question 18 months ago. I DID manage to solve it, but I cannot remember how, and since then I have changed computer. I have google set as my home page, and it automatically opens on every new tab, which is what I wanted. The problem is that when I open a new tab, the cursor is automatically positioned in the address bar, whereas I want to insert my search terms in the seach box in the middle of the page. How can I stop search terms being written in the address bar? I think I've set just about every possible search and browser option to false in about:config. Florio

I've just remembered how I solved the problem last year - I'll give the solution here just in case I or anyone else ever needs it. I use the Firefox add-on NEW TAB OVERRIDE so that every tab I open goes immediately to the Google home page (you can set this to any particular webpage). On the homepage of the add-on, you have to select: Set focus to the web page instead of the address bar. Florio
