How can we hide the new addons button?
FF 109 added a new addons-button (jigsaw puzzle icon) in the addons-toolbar. Can we hide it with a specific variable in about:config, or by creating a specific variable there?

Hi Daniel, there is a preference to hide the button temporarily (returning overflowing add-ons to the regular overflow menu), but as with many transitional preferences, that will eventually be removed. Related thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1402534
The reason I think the button will inevitably return is that starting this year, more and more add-ons will be changing to a new permission model where they won't be active on a site until you grant permission (Manifest v3). The drop-down list from the Extensions button will be your one-stop shop for managing add-on permissions.
Some users do not like the way the Extension button drop-down works or looks, and there is a thread where Mozilla is actively gathering input on that over on the Mozilla Connect site. If you have ideas for improving its layout or operation, you can chime in here: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/unified-add-ons-ui-improvements/idi-p/20964
As I read threads, it appears that a good number of users simply do not want any new toolbar buttons, period. At this point, I don't think Mozilla is considering an alternative to having an Extensions button/drop-down, but you could start a new thread over on Mozilla Connect with a proposal for an alternative. For example, maybe it could be moved to the main menu? Or the tab context menu? I don't have enough experience using the button to know how feasible it would be to relocate its features. In fact, we end users are all new to the Manifest v3 world and will need more experience to fully understand the best way(s) forward.
