New Tab is blank
There is no gear icon when I open a new tab. and my thumbnails are missing. Tried the solution here Right clicking does not give the option to restore defaults. value of browser.newtabpage.enabled is true. changing it to false did not change anything, neither did changing it back again.

Does it still happen in Troubleshoot Mode?
Didn't get around to trying troubleshoot mode. I had closed FF down, after clicking a link in an email, it was back to normal when it started up. I would like to try and work out what I did to cause the problem in the first place and why it suddenly reverted to normal though!
