monitor is completely filled with some screens and not on others, similar to format differences on widescreen TVs. Why and can that be fixed?

== just got new monitor, from CRT to LCD

Hello Gary.

Unfortunately, there is no solution to this problem, since it's down to how each website is designed. Some websites will stretch to fit the width of your Firefox's window, some won't, and that's the way the web works, as of today.

You may want not to run Firefox in a maximized window, because of this. That's the way many people with big screens choose to browse.

Or, if you know CSS, you can install Stylish and write a style for the pages you want stretched. But that's only if you know CSS, or if you want to spend a few long hours learning.

I hope this answers your question.

Ok , this cannot be the answer, with any other browser this does not happen, i go to google, msn, yahoo and they only take up half my screen (the middle, with the sides left blank), with IE they take up the full screen, so i fail to see how its the pages fault, I just dont enjoy seeing a half blank screen all the time and squinting to read stories, we shouldnt have to page zoom, it should just fill the screen, its does with IE, I really like FF but I wont switch until I figure this out. Once I do fix it I will be with FF forever.

I found the appropriate answer, right click on your home button and choose customize at the bottom of that tab, there is a zoom button in the options there you can choose, drag it to your menu bar and drop it, now when you get to those pages you can easily zoom it to fit your screen and it still looks great, I will now use firefox forever, I wish this info was easier to find tho!

When I right click on the home button, I see Menu Bar, Navigation Tool Bar, Bookmarks Toolbar and Customize. I clicked on Customize and do not see a Zoom button.

Now what?

The optimal width of reading is about 67 characters. If lines get to long, they are more difficult to read and find the next line. But images should be able to take advantage of the extra width of new widescreen monitors. Dynamically resized images would be nice.

Opera have a fit to width option that does this, I wish Firefox would too. It would be good in forums where they post images. A simple click and you see the entire image.

If there is only an image on a web page (direct URL to the image in the location bar) then Firefox will resize the image automatically. Otherwise the image is shown at the specified dimensions. There are bookmarklets around to resize such images if they are too wide and cause a scroll bar to appear.

I have located the "Zoom" and it's attached to my toolbar. However it's a pain to have to increase the of size of Firefox and all internet sites every time I visit. I've opened the "Display" in the "Control Panel" and adjusted my it to 150% but this doesn't seem to effect the display in FF.

I may have stumbled on to the display sizing solution. In "Control Panel" I'd adjusted my display and it effected the Internet Explore and it always opened at the same size - 150% as it was set. I couldn't understand why it didn't effect Firefox. I went to Program Defaults and made FF my default browser and that seems to have helped.

The Firefox Page Zoom feature does a domain by domain level of saving the users preferred zoom level settings, there is no default Page Zoom level setting in Firefox.

Try the Default FullZoom Level extension:

Or the NoSquint extension:

After CLICKING customize a new window appears with little icons and there names. Scroll down a bit n see the icon for ZOOM. CLICK/HOLD/DRAG to ur tool bar. I place my ZOOM icon by the BOOKMARKS button on the far right side. Now when ur viewing a site, just CLICK the + sign to zoom in and the - sign to zoom out. I think Fire fox could have made this a lot easier like IE which has the little icon at the bottom right corner of the screen showing the percentage increase of the page you wish to view
