Firefox 3.6.3, videos anywhere on the net are slow and stop at seemingly random spots. Audio is heard but video is frozen, then suddenly catches up. Noticed on youtube mostly but on other sites as well. Pictures are slow and "jerky" to load. Even scrolling down a page the page stops, beach ball of death, and then jerky up to new position. Editing this post, just clicking to edit caused the beach ball and a delay before I could edit.

how much ram and hard drive space do you have left

more options

On my main HD I have 314 gig of 1 TB left and the machine has a total of 12 TB. The total ram is 32 gig. I don't think I am running short on anything. Most importantly I do not have this problem running Chrome or Safari.

Which security software (firewall) do you have? --- Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes). See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems ..... Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems. See [[Basic Troubleshooting|#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting:Make a new profile]] There may be extensions installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions". If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files). See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

I've been having this same problem with mostly all videos and videosites, making me very angry.... the youtube videos will load a little then the gray bar (loading bar or whatever you call it) will glitch to the end, and the video won't load anything after its reached that point. It happens constantly, and makes me mad.... nothing has changed on my computer except firefox, that I know of....

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.

Try to decrease the value of the pref network.http.max-connections from 255 to a more modest setting of 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.
