closing and restarting firefox task manager reports firefox already running
When I exit firefox and later try to restart it without rebooting, task manager says it is already running and I have to close it before restarting. Task manager is reporting that 99% of its time is spent running Firefox.

See "Firefox is already running but is not responding" error - How to fix, in your case it appears that Firefox is not closing properly, so the Firefox hangs at exit article may be relevant.
first start task manager ,then click on processes ,then click on processes 'firefox.exe*32',click on it ,thenclick on end process
