These problems have to be related to FF, because they are not replicated when browsing with IE 8.0.

My home is my.yahoo.com. When I open a FF browser, I no longer get logged in, but instead am taken to a general page at yahoo.com. When I click "sign in", on the login page my password is all ready filled in, but user name is not. When I type the first letter of my username, the whole name is "suggested", and I can click that, check the box to "keep me signed in", and hit return, without typing the password, and I am taken to the correct my.yahoo.com page. Then when I close that browser window, and then relaunch FF, the same problem occurs

  • Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
  • You need an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep that cookie, especially for secure websites and if you let cookies expire when Firefox closes
  • Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and password exceptions.

Thanks for your advice. I must not have explained properly - cookies are indeed enabled and working - the site remembers my password but doesn't automatically execute the program to log me in, so it presents the general page instead of the my.yahoo page. Now I've deleted the yahoo.com cookie, and my ID and password are still retained when I click on sign in, because they are being saved in FF, but still, no auto login-in...

Please tell me what I might have done to prevent this from working as it did a few days ago, thx

Problem fixed (though not "solved") - removed FF keeping personal settings, bookmarks etc. and problem persisted. Then removed FF completely, and now everything is working as it was before.

Any ideas re what was wrong would be GREATLY appreciated, so I don't mess it up again, thx.

Iam having the same problem ! I just bought a new computer & am running windows 7 64bit. downloaded FF, using Sky Pilot as my theme. I always bookmark my most visited sites in the bookmark bar along the top of the browser window & in the past have always been able to get straight to my pages. Now however every time I close FF I have to log-in all over again - regardless of which site I am visiting. My username & password are there but the keep me logged in button is unchecked & I need to hit the log-in button. I was unsure if the problem related to my new computer (HP), windows 7 or FF - but it appears others are having this prob too - all my privacy settings are the same as on my previous computer. any suggestions would be most welcome !! thx

ps also when I select for FF to save my open tabs when closing down the browser, this is not happening & next time I open FF I am taken straight to the home page.
