I recently updated to 4.0 and now instead of typing a search word, "google" for example, into the navigation bar and being brought to the google home page, it now makes it a google search for that word ("google"). Firefox no longer assumes what site I am looking for when using the navigation bar. How can I get this feature back?

Yes, the default search behavior in 4.0 has changed.
In 3.6, Firefox used Google's "Browse by name" search. To make 4.0 also behave the same way, you need to change its settings:

  • Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
  • Accept the warning message that appears and you will see a list of settings.
  • Type keyword.URL into the search box at the top, double-click on it and change its value to:

http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
