How do i disable autosearch when i mistype a url? For instance, if i type "facebook.om" into the url bar, i get redirected to some armstrong search thing that makes url suggestions, granted in this example facebook is the second url on the page, but sometimes the url i was trying to type isn't on this page, and then i have to retype the entire url again(correctly), or copy the mistyped url from armstrong, paste it into the browser url bar then correct it. I'd rather get a page not found error, then simply be able to look at the url and fix it instead of being redirected to a search page. I also found in google chrome that mistyping a url, or only typing one word in the url bar would take you to a google search, which was still better than this armstrong thing. So how do i turn it off?

Nope. I went through those links, and have already tried those suggestions, but tried them again in case i did it wrong previously.

Turning off keyword.enabled only stops multi-word entries in the url bar from doing anything. for instance if i type "white iphone" into the url bar, and keyword.enabled is set to true, my browser sends me to google and shows a google search for "white iphone". If keyword.enabled is set to false i get a popup saying that i entered an invalid url.

But, whether keyword.enabled is true of false, if i just type "white" my browser redirects me to the armstrong auto search. So this solves half the problem, kind of.

keyword.url isn't set in my config (was blank as default), and I don't want my url bar to be directed to armstrong or anywhere.

Also, here is the url for the service that i am redirected to:

autosearch.zoominternet.net

When i search for it in the about:config, it doesnt show any results.

I figured it out. It doesnt appear to be part of firefox, but instead a "feature" of my isp. You have to disable it from the website itself... So damn frustrating.

It is possible that your ISP automatically redirects to that web page in case of a DNS look up failure. In that case you need to contact your ISP and ask for alternative DNS servers to opt-out.

You can also check the connection settings and make sure that you have selected a specific proxy (system proxy is the default and should be OK).
You can find the connection settings in:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced : Network : Connection
