On exit, I am not asked if I want to save existing tabs and it closes all of them without saving. How do I get F-F to save my tabs on exit?

I upgraded from version 3.5 In that version when I wanted to quit for the day, I could hit exit and it would ask me if I wanted to quit or save tabs and exit. In version 4 when I hit file, then exit, it does not ask if I want to save the tabs that are open, it just closes everything and does not save them. When I restart, I get a new tab window, but none of the other tabs I was working on are there. I need to keep the tabs I am working on available to me; that is what I liked best about the old version.

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"

If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.

  1. Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
  2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
  3. Locate the preference browser.tabs.warnOnClose, if its value is set to false, double-click on it to change its value to true
  4. Repeat this for these 3 preferences browser.warnOnQuit, browser.warnOnRestart and browser.showQuitWarning

If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:

  1. Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
  2. Go to the General panel
  3. Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

I have changed everything in my about:config as outlined in the instructions posted here and am still not getting the warning (although I now get the warning when I try to close multiple tabs or the notice that it will restore my session after a restart - neither of which are of use to me). What's missing from this equation?

In Firefox 3 I had originally turned off this feature without knowing how useful it would be. I have since used FF on another computer and have fallen in love with being able to - if I have a need - save my tabs on exit. Yes, I could just restore the session, but having the tabs just pop up for me honestly keeps me from space-casing on what I was doing last and then accidentally screwing up the "last" session part of it (by, say, doing some research, closing ff, then opening it again to just load facebook, closing it, then remembering the next day that I had wanted to get my research started again - if that example makes sense). I would just really like to be able to turn this back on with an option in the preferences section without having to tinker about in the about:config. I wish the powers that be would put some revert options in there - a basic "put it back! I didn't mean to click that!" would save a lot of people a lot of trouble.
