My internet works fine, but Firefox is reporting an update and is not connecting to the update server.

At least twice a day, Firefox will ask me if I want to update. This is strange because I have it set to automatically download and install updates. In addition, if I instruct it to update the software, it will say that it is connecting to update server, but will not progress any further. I have even tried leaving it alone for 12 hours in an effort to let it update. My internet connection is fine. I have no other problems using the web. My operating system is Mac OS X 10.6.7

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.
