When I download an executable file, for example the latest AVG, the only option allowed me is to save the file whereas I want to automatically open it to run after the download

Firefox does not have a "Run" or "Open" option by default. Reason is when you "Run" or "Open" an executable file (.exe or .com, for example) from the internet, your AV/AS application does not have an option to examine it before it is installed on your system. If you save the file to your hard drive your AV/AS system then has the opportunity to examine it for malware before it is installed to your system>

Thank-you. Much appreciate what you have to say re AV/VS. For those of us who know what we are doing it's a safe option to provide us the choice "do you want to open or to save" Same as with IE. I'll have a look at the addon. Thank-you again.
