Website URL-

www.cave-research.org

Mac users with Firefox 4.01 or 5 cannot access any of the pages on this site. The HTML code on this site was authored in February 2010, and the author proofed the site on a Mac, using Firefox. We have not found any PC Firefox users with the issue, and previously, our Mac users have had no issues.

That is a bug caused by the favcion on that website.

A possible workaround is to disable the website favicons by setting the pref browser.chrome.site_icons to false on the about:config

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

I've removed the favicon.ico file from the website. Could you confirm that the site is accessable now? There haven't been any conflicts with any browsers(including Firefox) until now- wouldn't it be more accurate to say that Firefox 4.01+ has issues with .ico files?

And don't tens of thousands of commercial and non-profit organizations use .ico files to help with the 'branding' of the site visitor's experience? Does Mozilla have any suggestions as to how to produce an .ico file that does not crash Firefox 4.01+?

Confirmed with Firefox 5 and the latest Nightly (7.0a1) that it now works and no more crashes.
