The other day Firefox asked me to install an Adobe plugin. I did and within 30 minutes I got a pop up claiming I was the winner of a YouTube contest. I x'd out. When I rebooted I had a bad virus. Had to get a new hard drive.

Just this morning after loading the new hard drive with everything, I got asked by Firefox to install an Adobe plugin, not thinking I did. A short time later I typed in a domain name and up popped videorewardpanel.com...the same one from four days ago. It also told me I won. I did a hard shut down.

So it seems to me there's something to do with this plugin.

Any ideas?

The long and the short of it is that to the extent of my knowledge, neither firefox or any legitimate adobe plug-in is giving people a virus.

It is possible that you went to a website that caused you to download a fake plug-in, but it is also possible that there is no connection between the virus and the plug-in.

When you said you had to get a new hard-drive, do you mean you physically bought a new piece of hardware? If so, why did you do so? Because the old one was infected, or because it was physically broken?

When you say you loaded the new hard-drive with everything, are we talking JUST the operating system and programs, or all your old files as well?

Did you run an anti-virus or anti-malware scan at any time in this process?

New hard drive because windows would not completely reinstall, got some error message and the hard drive had been knocking, so I figured just get another one. I've had viruses before and reinstalled Windows several times and they are still on there.

Ran AdAware, MalwareBytes and some other malware and MalwareBytes detected something, but it didn't help.

No files were reinstalled when it happened again. Just programs.
