Firefox 5 it says it is not the default browser every time I open it.

I recently upgraded to Firefox 5. I had firefox 3.6 on my machine but I had been using chrome. I've switched to firefox and set it as my default browser.

Initial thought was another browser must be resetting it. None of my other browsers are set as default. Chrome checks automatically, but I don't set it to default. I have the check turned off for IE.

Other possibility is windows 7 is not set correctly. I went into control panel/programs/set your default programs. Firefox has all its defaults set.

So for some reason Firefox doesn't know it is the default. I have it set to perform a check everytime because if another browser sets itself as default I want to know. But its very annoying seeing this notification every time when in fact Firefox is the default browser.

It seems like some kind of bug was created when I upgraded Firefox. I need a fix, hopefully soon.

I have some new information. I believe this problem was related to recent updates to Windows 7. Before upgrading Firefox, I had updated windows 7 with the SP1 update. Apparently I had additional pending updates since then. I don't know specifically what those updates were, but when I applied them and then restarted the issue described above went away. Firefox is now behaving itself. So this is a potential solution if anyone else is having trouble.
