Unless my TBird(portable) is already open, when I click on a mailto link or 'send link' I get a window that wants to setup a newsgroup or blog account. How do I get FFox 3.6 to always use TBird?

I already set TB to be my default mail client in the control panel, it works fine, but unless it's open, I really can't send links or use the mailto function correctly. How do I fix this?

Portable Apps are beyond the scope of this support forum, as they are 3rd party versions.

Unless I am forgetting something, I don't think a "portable app" can be set as the "default" in Windows, and I don't think an official version of Firefox can use Thunderbird Portable for "malito". That functionality needs Registry 'hooks' which Portable Apps don't have.

Now, that might be possible with the Portable Apps Platform, but it would involve using the Portable version of both Firefox and Thunderbird.

See the Thunderbird Portable support forum:

I figured it out. You have to specifically select the portable version in the Tools/Options/Mailto window and then it works correctly. Just selecting TB doesn't do it....you have to point it to the folder where the portable version lives.
