Can Firefox 7.0.1 transmit 128 bit SSL encrypted info? I was applying for a credit card online and their system said that my browser does not have this capability.

I have Firefox 7.0.1 on my PC running Windows Vista Ultimate. Today I was applying for a credit card online, via an encrypted connection. The system of the credit card company (Citibank) said that I need a web browser that can support 128 bit SSL encrypted connection. When I clicked on the "check my browser" button, I got message that my browser does not support this kind of secure encryption/connection. I have used Firefox for other secure connections and never came across anything like this.

If websites complain about 128 bit encryption not available then that can be caused by the "U;" that is no longer present in the Firefox 4 user agent.

Firefox supports 256 bit encryption ciphers since Firefox 2 was released in 2002.

Thank you very much for responding. I did check out the links that you provided in your reply. Please forgive my ignorance, but does your answer mean that Firefox also supports encryption that is less than 256 bit? Thanks.

Yes, 128 bit encryption is still enabled although it is not really recommended anymore as some have been compromised.
All ciphers weaker that 128 bit are disabled by default as you can see on the about:config page.
