I want to delete some suggested USER IDs so when I try to log on to sites such as Verizon e-mail, incorrect suggestions (due to typing errors, old IDs, etc.) are no longer displayed.

There's a help page on how to add or delete user profiles, but that's not relevant. [Note: the "delete" feature, as written, appears as though it will delete ALL profiles.] I don't want to delete a profile; I just want to edit it to remove invalid user IDs.

If you are referring to the auto fill thing, you can hover over the desired autofill item then press delete on your keyboard. That will remove those unwanted emails and auto fill suggestions

Do NOT delete profiles, they contain all your important settings passwords and bookmarks.

All you need to modify are the passwords or form filling. In the case of form filling (maybe as an email field) just highlight the offering and hit the keyboard delete key.

Arrgghh! Do I feel stupid! Of course I tried highlighting the proffered but mistaken user IDs. But when I did, I presumed it would be like highlighting other text (i.e. I'd right click to get a menu, from which I'd choose delete). After right clicking didn't work, I didn't try the simple, VERY SIMPLE step of just hitting the delete key while the text was highlighted. I was over-thinking it.

THANK YOU for your replies!

Boo hiss! I would like to give both of you solution credit. Unfortunately, it seems the system only allows credit for one solution.

John99, THANK YOU, and if there's a way I can give you credit for your well-written solution, please let me know!

Glad we helped & you solved the problem. My post was the first reply, anyone looking at the thread will be able to see it. Because you have marked Carm's solution the thread has become solved, that makes it more prominent in some of the search results.

This forum has some failings, one shortcoming is how the helpful and solutions are displayed. I believe the decision has been taken to rethink its design and workflow entirely rather than make incremental improvements. ( I bet any change will in the short term produce a few problems itself )

I've marked John's post as Helpful

I tried hovering & using the delete key but that doesn't permanently remove the old & non usable ids or those with spelling errors which are also not usable. Is there a way to permanently keep ONLY those user IDs that are current and correct?

Using the Delete key (on Mac Shift+Delete) should remove the highlighted entry in the drop down list.
Data may be stored as name and password in the password manager or as form data.

It is possible that data get stored via both ways, so if you do not see an entry in the Password Manager then try to disable remembering password temporarily and give it another try to remove saved form data.

I am trying to get an add-on called autofill forms to work right. It refuses to lose my old street address, and every time I reboot, it reverts to the old, incorrect addy.

The developer says just create a new profile, but that is a ridiculous amount of work, plus I am now on Firefox 12 and 90% of the other add-ons I want to get won't even show up in the Mozilla search engine because they say they don't work on v12 (which is not usually true anyway.) I don't want to lose all my other add-ons just to make this one work. Somewhere in my Firefox profile is the incorrect street address. If I could find that and EDIT it, it would solve the problem.

Hi goldenskyhook,

You are probably best starting your own thread by following the links and prompts from /questions/new

If you do post another question say so in this thread, and maybe add a cross link (or I will add a x link if you post back)

I do not at the moment know anything bout that add on, presumably it has no easy delete option. Uninstalling and re-installing the add on could be a solution, but could also result in information loss. As I said please start a new thread I am sure I or someone else will be at least able to make suggestions.
