Before I could "restore previous session" when my computer unexpectedly rebooted, now I cant - why?

Because of my work I often have to go back to my browsing session the day later, I could shut my computer down and then "restore previous session" the next time I opened Firefox, now I can't. why?

Is there a way I can save all my tabs without bookmarking each one individually to enable me to reopen them the following day?

Upgrade your browser to Firefox 8 and check

Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows or otherwise have problems with restoring tabs.
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.

Using the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" setting is a more reliable way to restore session data.
