Our old computer crashed, and this update firefox kept coming up before it crashed and although we tried to download it, it never downloaded. We bought a new MAC days ago, and had the old computer hard drive downloaded onto the new computer, and this pop up is still coming up. We currently have on the new computer Mozilla 5.0 firefox 3.6.12 and the popup came, and we did the download but it will not upgrade. How do I get rid of the update or download it successfully. Thanks very much.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
