I am on a dell 620 laptop. Every time I get on Firefox, an AVG window is popping up saying that excessive memory is being used (215 MB) and it recommends that I log out and log back in for faster processing. Logging out does not make a difference. The last update also disabled my AVG tool bar from the internet screen which I am not sure matters much, but I am concerned about the excessive memory use warning. Can you please provide me guidance about this matter?

AVG seems to be overly sensitive to RAM usage, 215MB is well within normal parameters depending upon what you have Firefox doing.

Check with AVG support to find out how to change the trigger level for that message, or to find out how to just disable that "toy" that they recently added to their software.

The notification started coming up since upgraded to 8.0. If it doesn't slow down your PC, you don't have to worry about it. You can disable it by:

Right click on your AVG icon and go to: Tools > Advance AVG Settings > Appearance

and from there you can UNCHECK the option "Display AVG Advisor performance notifications".

After that, the notification will not show up anymore.

It does seem to be slowing my computer down a bit as it is 7 years old (I think - Dell 620 laptop). What was in this latest update that is so necessary to have? Can I remove any parts of the last Firefox update that won't make much of a difference?

I was told that maybe one or more of the add-ons that I have might have caused the problem, please read this thread:

https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/897007

So if you have time, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode and check each of your add-ons one at a time to see if the problem goes away.

Thanks but I have no idea how to do that and don't know the purpose of the add- ons or what is considered critical in the updates so that is outside of my knowledge level and comfort. How do I find out what is critical in the update without devoting a major chunk of my life to it? This is getting frustrating from my perspective. I am going to contact AVG and ask them how this pop up is gauging what to interpret critical memory use. If you have any other thoughts they are appreciated
