Since FF 8.0 typing in the address bar returns a Yahoo search and it is absolutely hopeless, the results bear no relation to the search terms. Using the search box to the right (Google default) is perfect.

I have altered the about:config listing and removed Yahoo! and Bing, replaced with Google but the address bar still uses Yahoo. My ISP is BT, owner of Yahoo, but this hasn't happened before 8.0. Chromium is unaffected so presumably only a Firefox issue. Ubuntu 11.04 "Oneiric Ocelot"

Hi Myglaren,

Take a look at the Knowledge Base article Location bar search. It will give you instructions on changing the key word search provider used in the location bar.

If that doesn't work, you might want to take a look at How to fix preferences that won't save.

Hopefully this helps!

Thanks for the swift reply Matt. Unfortunately neither option has solved the problem. It does not arise on my (Windows) laptop, only on the Ubuntu desktop. It saves preferences OK. Went back into the config file and it was as I had left it when it was Ff 8.0. It upgraded to 9.0.1 a few days ago. No obvious changes in anything when it did.

I have removed any mention of Yahoo from the config listing with the exception of a couple of lines that refer to my BT-Yahoo mail account.
