i can not sign into facebook by the log in icon. i can only get in by hitting thr enter key on my keyboard. once in i can not use any of facebooks icons such as home, my name or sign out, nor can i click on the icon for adding new friends, private messages or activities. i can not post anything to my wall. i can click on other peoples post but cant put one of my own. i also can not sign out. the only way i can sign out is by using my tool icon and clearing everything.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first) using either of these. While viewing a page on the site:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Speaking of cookies, if you set cookie permissions on a site-by-site basis ("ask me every time"), check out this thread: Certain websites do not work properly in normal browsing mode but work in private browsing perfectly.

Problems with buttons and links at the top of the page not working can be caused by an extension like the Yahoo! Toolbar or a Babylon extension that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links and buttons in that part of the screen not clickable.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
