Tried updating firefox but still spontaneously changes download location. Reason I still used v 3.6.26. How do I fix this?

I've been using 3.6.26 for years because when I upgrade, the new version saves files to an apparently random location rather than to previous download folder. Files get lost and I'm about to go back again.

Other users are trying things like editing files I haven't heard of (i.e. editing about:config is not enough) Why is this happening and where is the setting that allows me to go to previous folder? It's getting to the point where new flash applications etc. make it hard for me to use 3.6.26 and I'm going to have to switch browsers.

Hello iareth

If you selected, as you downloaded the file, a custom place to put the download, Firefox download the file there.

If Firefox did not ask you where to save the file, go to Tools > Options > General > Downloads > Save files to, and select the location where Firefox will store your downloads. In the same session, you can also configure it to ask you every time you choose to save a download (Always ask me where to save files).

If you set correctly the above and firefox cannot remember the location then you probably have corrupt or damaged prefs.js file, see : Preferences not saved - Corrupt or damaged prefs.js file

thank you
