I installed Firefox on a new computer running Windows 8. Everything seems to be there except the Address bar. So, to access a website I have to enter the url in the Google search box. Once I reach the desired site I add it to bookmarks or it adds itself to Most Visited.

That brings up another issue: every time I visit a site it adds to Most Visited. That kind of defeats the purpose of that feature if everything you visit (including some password-protected pages) ends up on that list. We are deleting as we go the ones we don't want there.

Unless you have a special UI for Windows 8...

Make sure you aren't in full screen mode. The F11 key toggles between full screen and regular view.

To display the Navigation Toolbar, you can try any one of these:

  • right-click a blank area of the Tab bar, then click Navigation Toolbar
  • tap the Alt key, then View > Toolbars > Navigation Toolbar

Regarding Most Visited, do you mean the little blue "search folder" on the Bookmarks Toolbar? I think it stops growing at 10 entries. If this item isn't useful, you can move it off the Toolbar onto the Bookmarks Menu. Probably easiest to drag and drop or cut and paste in the Library dialog. Press Ctrl+Shift+b or use "Show All Bookmarks" to call that up.

Thanks a lot. I seem to have cracked all of the codes except that one. This Win8 is a real piece of culture shock for an older model like me. We're getting there, though.
