Getting "The connection was reset" on several sites
I just updated from FF21 to FF22. Immediately after doing so, I was unable to get into my Comcast email, the Google search page, Facebook, and even the Mozilla community. On some of them (such as Google and Facebook) I immediately got:
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
On other sites (such as Comcast and Mozilla), I can access their home pages with no problem, but when I go to sign in I get that message. Obviously, I haven't tried every page in my bookmarks, but I've tried enough to know that I've got an inconsistent problem. I do not have this problem with Internet Explorer or Chrome (in fact, I'm using Chrome right now to access the Mozilla community, which adds yet another dimension to the definition of "irony".) I've tried, to the best of my limited technological ability, to apply the suggestions given in other threads, with no success. (And I'd really rather not have to reload scores of bookmarked pages individually if I can avoid it!) I have never had any problems with earlier FF versions (and I think I've been using them since about version 4). Is this a glitch with the new release? Should I go back to 21?

I'm having this exact same problem and the pages linked are not helping. I've tried disabling ipv6 and the prefetch, clearing the cache and cookies, reinstalling, and checking for malware. What gives? I was using Firefox fine until I upgraded.
I now have the same problem - started today. Driving me nuts - so, come on Mozilla, what have you done wrong this time?
will starting firefox in safe mode help?
I think people are past the "oh, just open it in safe mode" responses. It's like calling tech support and them asking if you've restarted your computer... Safe mode does help, nor clearing cache/cookies/etc, nor does anything else I've seen/tried on the support.mozilla.org forums. Support here is like a broken record. Best to go to another website IMO.
The problem is/was, for me, that I couldn't open https (notice the s for secure) websites.
I really wish I could find the thread again, but I had to go into the command prompt and enter in about four or five different lines. If I find it again I'll post it here. Just keep searching for things like "firefox connection reset https" and you'll eventually find it.
Short of that, reformat your computer. I know that's like the worst advice I could give you and it's a pain in the butt but... hey, it's good to do so every once in a while.

Yes, and none of those links were useful to me at the time. They've been posted several times before.
Like I said, I had to go into the command prompt and enter in about five things. I'm seriously trying to find those lines for those of you still having problems because I know it would blow everyone's fraking mind here.

I am in awe of the techies on here. Me, I'm just a normal user who finds it ridiculous that I have to go through all this agony to get this software to perform correctly. I can follow the instructions but I haven't got the faintest idea what I'm doing or indeed what I do if I screw up.
It was working yesterday and I haven't changed anything. It is not working today. Should give someone a clue that Mozilla have done something crazy (again) given I've not downloaded anything nor have I updated any software.

Pay special attention to the regsvr32 dll part. That was the ticket last time. I just copied and pasted that into a notepad file, saved the file, and renamed it to a .bat extension. Saves having to type.
Out of curiosity, does anyone else who was having this issue have an internet filter installed? I know for a fact that Net Nanny has a "Block SSL" (Might have been "Block HTTPS") option in it somewhere.

I've found my old standby is the easiest solution for viruses and weird messages like this that just suddenly show up one day. Rather than trying all sorts of complicated techie fixes that I worry may end up doing more harm than good, I just run the magic "System Restore" to restore the computer to the way it was before the problem began. You don't lose any of your saved work, email or downloads--anything like that. It just restores the computer settings to whatever pre-problem point you select. I usually pick a restore point about a week before I noticed the problem--you can always pick an earlier restore point and do it again if you need to. It's never failed me yet, and I just used it to fix this "connection was reset" problem the other day.

Thanks to all who have posted trying to help. I have neither the tech knowledge nor the time to fool around trying to correct something that should never have happened in the first place. I started using Firefox a couple years ago (or more) because I was tired of messing with IE. I was very pleased with the results until now. I have since migrated to Google Chrome, and am uninstalling Firefox. Thank you, and goodbye.
