How do I paste an image after right-clicking Save Image on a website photo using Firefox 23 on Windows?

more options

I am using Firefox 23 on a Windows laptop. I want to copy an image from a website and paste it to another website or into an email.

I can highlight text, right-click and select Copy and then right-click again and select Paste to copy and paste text.

When I view an image on a website, right-click and select Save Image nothing happens. When I right-click again Paste is greyed out and I can't paste the image into a website or an email.

Thank you.

When your want to paste a picture, you need to select Copy Image from the right click drop-down menu instead of Save Image As...

My bad. If I choose right-click and choose Copy Image, I also can not paste the image into a website or email.

The archives have a similar question around Firefox 11 or 12. At that time people couldn't right-click copy and paste text or images. The text problem seems to be solved but I'm having problems with right-click Copy Image and paste.

Thanks.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • Open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Please report back with the results.

The image copy features was changed multiple times last year, and it's possible that it changed again, but here is the general theory:

The receiving program (whether Firefox or another program) decides whether Paste should be available in the receiving context based on what it finds on the clipboard.

Could you try a test? If you select a chunk of HTML with the picture embedded in it, copy that, then try to paste, does it work then -- does the picture come through? (Firefox stores different data on the clipboard when you use copy image than when you copy a chunk of HTML so I'm curious whether Paste lights up in that situation.)
