Can you please confirm if this issue is happening only for email attachments or for any other document you are downloading from the Internet. Also, if I might ask - is this a public email provider like GMail / Yahoo mail / Hotmail or something else?

Several other users are reporting the same problem, although for some users it is intermittent or doesn't affect all their accounts. There are a variety of suggestions but not yet a confirmed solution in this thread: Firefox suddently stopped downloading email attachments.

yea I have to use Safari to download email attachments, oh well.

Previous users have found it helpful to log out of the account and to log back in, then delete the bookmark for the mail client and re-add it.

Hope this helps, since it has been reported in other browsers as well.
